Haitians, frustrated by the slow recovery after the devastating earthquake, need more global support. Most people in the global village forgot about the plight of the Haitians while they were enjoying FIFA World Cup 2010 in beautiful South Africa. Many people who are complaining that the economic earthquake that hit them and their families and have depleted their resources feel that they just do not have the strength to fight the tardiness of the Haitian recovery efforts.

One of the big problems that Haitians face is that most donors have strings attached to their donations and purses of great help and wealth. For one they do not understand Haitian culture and climate. They are baffled by the need to erect houses with wood and iron that can withstand the hurricanes. The government of Haiti is under extreme pressure to fight corruption and fraudulent use of donor funds from the big Haitian treasure chest. The government is also under pressure of other nations that want to force their will on Haiti through the hand of their donations.

Haiti needs more moral and management support and not interference. Let Haitians and the Haiti government make the critical decisions. Haitians know best how to rebuild Haiti. The global village should just as how can we help and do as we are told by the Haitian rebuilders of a country of proud people. I am not sure that the people of other countries who have suffered as much as Haitians did will have the tenacity and the resiliency and the resolve to still have a song in their hearts as they do most of the recovery through and by menial labor. Keep singing, Haiti.

I salute Haiti! We can become encouraged and inspired if we read and know about heroic stories of survival. I just recently heard about Peterson a boy who was crushed by a concrete block that fell on him. His face was swollen and bandaged and when the doctor of the Miami Childrens Hospital removed the bandages he discovered the maggots that were nesting in the boys face. The doctor and the child have since become great friends.

Post earthquake Haiti is a story of death, grief, birth and joy. Haiti is the story of a people, of a nation in recovery. Haiti is the story of the resiliency of the human spirit. Haiti is a story of overcoming the seemingly insurmountable odds. Haiti is a story not of statistics but of people in pain. Haiti is not research; it is reality in the making. Haitians are desperately at work to reconstruct their reality.

Please ask your government to back off from trying to take over the governance of Haiti. Please ask donors to refrain from making unrealistic demands. If you really want to do something for Haiti, go to Haiti, roll up your sleeves and join in their song of recovery as you help them clear the rubble and debris.

I think when countries or people offer help, they often believe it gives them the right to try and control. It's a great way to gain power over the vulnerable.
