TV Commentators Call South African Crowd Ignorant of Rules of FIFA Soccer World Cup Apology Needed

ABC commentators were annoyed by the booing of the crowd at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium during the match for third place between Germany and Uruguay. Is this the thanks that South Africans get for hosting a perfect World Cup? Is this indicative that the mindset change is but skin deep? Gentlemen, Is this really what you are thinking about South Africans? Was this annoying thought always there and did it just surface in an inconvenient moment.

The commentators in question owe the South African crowd an apology!

To make a deliberate handball in soccer is NOT in the true spirit of the game. Luiz Suarez disgraced the Uruguay team with his deliberate handball on the goal line. Even if the penalty kick was on target and even if a goal was scored by Ghana, it still does not justify the handball made by Mr. Suarez.

It is precisely because the South African crowd knows the rule and the spirit of the game of soccer that their booing of the player was justified and fair. Please do not mar an otherwise great performance by TV commentators. Every commentator rose to the occasion and extolled the beauty of this World Cup in South Africa.

You applauded the fact that South Africa is not a jungle with world class soccer stadiums. You panned beautiful shots of South African scenery, buildings and neighborhoods. We thank you for taking a new look at South Africa.

I guess the commentators had one finger pointing and three pointing back at them! There are usually a few killjoys in the crowd...

The crowd was doing nothing wrong other than venting their disgust with Luiz Suarez
