Soccer City will be the venue for an epic battle between Spain and the Netherlands on Sunday July 11 th at 1.30 pm local time. What a spectacle it will be. True to its form the perfect host country, South Africa will finally convince the world that South Africa is not just a premier soccer venue but a place to live and work.

Spain made sure of their place in the annals of soccer history by playing in the world cup final for the first time. They made sure by beating Germany. The German inexperience was so evident on the field of play today. The Germans played Spain with utmost respect. Even the last dying seconds of the game still showed a determined and respectful German team asking for permission from Spain to attack their goal.

Spain showed no mercy to the Germans. Once again experience trumped youth. The stalwart status of most Spanish players outsmarted the efforts of the young Germans. On the day it was all Spain with at least 67% possession.

Now I am finally looking forward to the final. I have rooted for Bafana Bafana until their exit. I then switched allegiance to Ghana and then to the Netherlands. I have never fancied the likes of England, Argentina and Brazil. Uruguay should not even be in a match up with Germany on Saturday for third and fourth place respectively.

I have really enjoyed this world cup. It was great. I especially liked the vibe in the mother city, Cape Town. The always delightful President Zuma is indeed right when he says that Cape Town was the best host city. He means it and is definitely to trying to buy cheap ANC votes. Africas perfect hosting of this soccer world cup is not the result of any individual or political party. Not the ANC, DA or any other party can claim exclusive responsibility for this success.

Again, thank you my fellow South Africans. You have made South Africa proud. I am sure that more and more people will visit South Africa, invest in South Africa and develop projects in South Africa. Africa does not need help; Africa should help itself. Partners are always welcome.

The golden era of Africa that my late father lamented about now seems a reality. The African Renaissance now seems a reality. The pride of South Africa and its rainbow peoples have been restored. There were those who had no hope for South Africa as host nation for world cup 2010. Instead of regretting this stance, become positively and actively engaged in partnering with South Africa as we week to develop our nation.

To all my comrades and special friends and colleagues and family in South Africa, VIVA! Sekunjalo!
