What will you do today to inspire just one American youth?

Congratulations on this the American Independence Day, 4th July celebrations. Americans, indeed have so much to celebrate. WE are indeed grateful for those men and women in uniform who risked their lives to give us freedom. They protect our borders and are the heroes in time of national crisis and disaster. They did a sterling job helping people in natural disasters like Katrina.
Today America should declare war on itself by drawing strength and inspiration from their history. I am indeed asking what these men and women died for given the sad state of the country. There are more poor families now than during the great Depression. Ordinary Americans are finding it hard to make ends meet.  Just this morning a well dressed war veteran sporting an American flag on his car and an American pin on his lapel showed me his money at the gas station and asked me for two dollars more so that he can pump enough in order to go to his family for a bite to eat on Independence Day. Wow?! Fortunately, I pumped half a tank of gas for him and just said thank to him for being who he is and for doing what he did.

If you look at the list of modern weapons by country, the USA is not listed. Why? We can develop weapons of social reconstruction. Yes, weapon because there is an enemy out there who needs to be defeated. Can we join in a revolutionary war? Please? For starters the following will be our arsenal of weapons of mass reconstruction:

·         Bradley tanks full of community in distress support canons

·         Bullets of brave deeds

·         Drones dropping delightful, uplifting, inspirational stories in neighborhoods

·         Grenades of good deeds

·         Rockets sparking healthy relationships

·         Shells of constructive support and social networking

·         Swords that can cut through long standing ridiculous family feuds

·         Troops in casuals touting American patriotic dreams

Do not let the words of Nikita Khrushchev kill our children. Americans, we need to touch the lives of children and especially young people. We want to declare war on the stuff that makes them cry alone. We want to connect with them when they are perplexed. We want to connect with them when they create a danger to others while trying to create a safe space for themselves. We want to connect with them as they build their career with minimal resources. We want to connect with them when they are disappointed and made to feel rejected. We declare war on the stuff that makes them consider suicide. We want to connect with them because although their electrical time sequence measurement indicates activity and they may in fact be busy and active, their flatline is the result of a complete breakdown of their relationships and everything that gives meaning to their lives. Mark Barton, Seung-Hui Cho, Robert Hawkins, Joseph Pallipurath, Terry Ratzmann, Norman Afzal Simons, Robert Stewart, Bryan Uyesugi, and Jeff Weise are not just names. These are the names of people whose flatline produced a flatline tragedy that devastated neighborhoods. We need to act fast in order to avert a repeat of these kind of preventable tragedies. Many of these people were disconnected from their neighborhood of origin. There was pain. The pain was unattended. The pain generated more pain. When will we debunk the myth that time heals or that time is a healer? Time in these instances was the producer of a tragic event. Each one's pain crafted and directed a plan that was enacted over time and suddenly the neighborhood realized that it ran out of time to identify and respond to flatline people.
