24 Year Old Canadian Figure Skater Joannie Rochette's Priceless Medal Triumphs Over Death Of Mom At Canadian Winter Olympics.

I tip my hat to the courage of Joannie Rochette. She deserved her medal at the Winter Olympics last night. One could feel the sense of triumph and celebrate with her as she threw her arms to the sky almost saying that this is for you mom.

I would not have been able to carry on. I would have thought and focused on my loss. I would have cried, grieving the loss of my mom. In fact my mom died on the day that I returned to South Africa upon the completion of my doctoral degree in the United States. I wish that I had seen the model example of Joannie back then.

This really was an authentic celebration and medal of courage. I am not sure how she will be feeling once she gets home and once the adrenalin rush settles. She will probably only then realize that her beloved mother is no more.

Joannie your example is a lesson in the realities, practicalities and the uncertainties in life. Joannie the whole world were praying for you and held their breath for you and is now sharing your joy in the midst of your most excruciating pain. Your medal is priceless.
