We are so classically conditioned to see things up close and personal. We often blame the person we can see for something that we might experience as painful, unpleasant or awkward. We blame our close family and friends for anything negative that we may have to endure. Husbands blame their wives. Wives blame their husbands. Children blame their parents. Teachers blame the principal. The children blame the students. We think that we have the right to blame the people we can see. We are often nasty with them. Our closest family and friends often bear the brunt of our bitterness and pain.
And then we finally got to the exit that would take me on the road home. As we could finally move into the turning lane I saw a small car ahead of the truck and I realized that this car was there all the time and I recognized the car as that belonging to what must be the most annoying driver in our neighborhood. See, for a while, I could not see ahead of the truck and therefore blamed the truck driver for annoying me with his driving.
Likewise we cannot always see the system or program at play in life. I do not always see what might be annoying my wife, my children, my colleagues or my friends, but I am quick to get annoyed with them. I have learned a valuable lesson while driving and I have decided to be much slower to anger and to stay kind, longer. I will give those close to me a chance to escape my anger, annoyance or wrath. I will no longer blame them for what I perceive them to be causing me for they too might have something annoying them. Maybe 3D TV will help as to conceptualize a more comprehensive perspective.
I would like to know what you think about the car ahead of you has a car in front of it.

Great comparison how we rush to anger without seeing the big picture. Great idea of using the truck driver example.Thank you for your response
Hi Michael. Thank you so much for this very insightful article. Great analogy and it made me think of how not to make hurried judgment before I have all the facts. It reminded me of one of my high school teachers asking her students to draw a picture of a small table in the classroom and were asked to describe the color of each leg of the table. I could only see three legs and could not see the leg farthest from me, therefore could not see the color of the fourth. Great article Mike, well-written. Thanks for sharing. ~Nenita~Thank you for taking the time to read and to respond to my article.
